San Francisco

Well, I'm off to San Francisco for the Pediatric Academic Society conference. I'll write when I get back if anything interesting happens.

Damone

So, last week I was scanning through iTunes and I came across the free download of the week. It was Out Here All Night by the band, Damone. After a quick listen, I began checking out all the clips from their CD. I decided right then to just buy the whole damn thing, and I've been listening it to it almost non-stop on my iPod. This CD kicks ass. And they do a cover of Wasted Years by Iron Maiden. Heavy guitar riffs. Chick singer. Good old rock.
You can check out their website here. Or just download the CD at iTunes here.

The Half Bottle

So ever since my wife became pregnant, I've lost my usual drinking partner. This made it difficult to open up a nice new bottle of wine without wondering if half would go to waste. I have been know, on occassion, to polish one off by myself. However, that's not the usual occurance. Then it hit me. Half bottles!
My journey into the world of half bottles started last night, when I opened a nice bottle of E Guigal Chateauneuf du Pape 2001. Right away, I knew this was a good choice. One of the guys at Cellar 72 sort of recommended it to me (actually, I asked him what he thought of it, and he said it was good), and I'm glad I bought it. Initially, I could detect some scents of wood and leather. On the taste side, there was lots of black pepper and some fruity elements as well (plum I would think) and it finished off with more of that leather quality. All in all, I thought it was great, and am now going to go out there and find a nice full bottle to share with my wife in about 5 months or so.

Starting over, with a drink

Well, a friend of mine told me that I needed to create a blog. I had been resisting for a long time, but I finally did it. Then it sat dormant for months. I really didn't have any interest in writing about my job/life/family, etc... But now, I've come up with an idea and we'll see how it goes.
I've been collecting different things my entire life (baseball cards, comics, cd's), and what I've been interested in lately is wine. So, I decided to start this blog over focusing on wine and see how it goes.
I'm not a total novice when it comes to wine, but I'm not all that knowledgible either. Lately I've taken an interest in really learning about wines. I've been to a couple of classes and my lovely wife bought me a little wine fridge for our apartment to feed into my growing obsession.
I'm not wine savvy, and I'm still trying to understand the difference between some of the grapes, lands, and so on. But I figured I'd give this a go. Hopefully we'll see my writing skills and actualy thoughts on the wines improve as time goes on. Wish me luck. I'll be back next time on some thoughts about specific wines I've had recently.
